Grease Traps

Grease traps are required by code in most commercial food service applications. They help prevent clogs by removing grease from hot water. This is done by slowing down the flow of water and allowing it to cool. As the water cools, the grease within it rises to the top where it is caught in baffles in the grease trap. The remaining water is then allowed to exit the grease trap and drain normally.

Grease traps must be cleaned regularly to prevent blockage. Installing a larger size of grease trap will reduce the frequency of cleaning necessary but you can't avoid having to do so. A neglected grease trap will always ultimately result in clogging, greasy water backing up, and overflow. Don't let this happen to you.
